Introduction to Long Tail Keywords for Organic Traffic
If you have not heard about long tail keywords, you are missing big time on getting search traffic to your blog.
These keywords are the best bet to get more visitors, more affiliate sales, more digital products sales and lots more.
They are very specific and go straight to the matter and topic of your blog.
If you have very little knowledge of long tail keywords I will break it down for you right now.
Long Tail Keywords Explained
If I were to buy the product “Ice cream” online.
I would head in to google search and type in “Where to buy good ice cream online”
Now above is a long tail keyword but what actually guarantees that a particular keyword is Long tail?
There are many wrong facts online about long tail keywords. Some tell you if the amount of words exceed 3 then it’s long tail.
What is a Long Tail Keyword Really?
You can guarantee that a keyword is long tail if
- It has low competition but
- High Traffic
“Prosper Noah” can be called a long tail keyword because it has low competition. So it does not really depend on the length of the words though words with 2,3-4 are guaranteed to become long tail.
- Long Tail Keywords go straight to what a user searches for and is very specific.
- Most of the these keywords are long tails
You may need to read my post on Long Tail keywords just in case you want to learn more.
How to find low competition keywords with high traffic using Free Tools [Fast]
As promised in the title, I’d be showing you how to find keywords with low competition easily and fast; however note below.
Pros of using Free tools for finding high search keywords with low competition
Pros
Unlike Paid Tools, you won’t be spending a dime
Cons
- Free Tools don’t give you an all in one solution, so you need to combine a few other tools
- You are limited to how many keywords are shown
- Time framed: You may not be allowed more than twice or more.
1. Free Tools to Find High Search Low Competition Keywords
You can use free tools to find easy to rank keywords but you’d have to spend some time but not so long a time.
I’ve analyzed couple of free keyword tools and I can recommend some of them below.
I will teach you how to use these free tools to find keywords with low competition and high search volume but first let’s identify these keywords.
a. Google Auto Suggest
You must have wondered sometime when searching google for a solution to one of your problems you see google already suggesting or completing the search term for you.
As seen below:
Google is able to display these keywords because searchers enter them often. Which definitely means the keyword is in high demand but don’t jump up yet.
You still need to to know if they have some high amount of users searching for that term, I will show you that but before then, see the second tool below for identifying long tail keywords.
b. Google Searches Related To
This is another great free tool to find long tail keywords however only a few people know about it and that’s why you should count yourself lucky to be here on this Post.
What is Google Searches Related To and how to find them?
When you initially search for a keyword on google. Scroll till the last position, there you have the google searches related to: Google displays other keywords people are using to arrive at the same search term they typed.
Below is what am talking about.
Now these are gold keywords once again.
In few minutes you are going to learn how to check the search volume of these keywords.
c. UberSuggest
This Tool is one of the simplest free keyword tool for any beginner to keyword research.
All you need do is put in a seed keyword.. And it will list out lots of long tail keywords you can start targeting to get organic traffic to your blog.
So head in to UberSuggest, put in one keyword e.g. “Snacks” or “buy snacks” depending on your article.
and it would fetch a huge list of keywords, choose those that are relevant to the article you would be writing.
d. KeywordTool.io
This has been of the best free tools i used back then when I started newly but it still works till date.
Just go to keywordtool.io.
Put in a seed keyword, and select which country to target. e.g. google.com (US), google.co.in (India) google.com.ng (Nigeria) etcc..
I would suggest you go for google.com as it’s more profitable however if your blog or website is country specific then target the one that corresponds I.E. Your Country Google TLD.
Keywordtool will now show you keywords that are being searched for on google according to your seed keyword. From there you can check up it’s search volume and target it.
Wait a Minute!
Noticed one thing in all tools mentioned above?
None of these tool actually was able to show you the search volume of a particular keyword, there’s not gonna be any use if you find keywords that don’t get high search on google.
But I have good news Anyway..
You are going to learn how to check the search volume of these keywords quickly using freemium or premium tools for free.
2. How to Find Search Volume of a Keyword?
Now using the free tools above you were able to find and identify long tail keywords to use. But now you are going to see how many times these keywords are searched for monthly.
a. Using Serp Keyword Research Tool
This tool will help you check how many searches your keywords get per month and as well suggest other more relevant keywords that matter.
Check screenshot below
IT gives you the volume for each keyword. Volume means an estimate of how many times people search for this keyword monthly.
So you can now find the search volume of keywords using serps keyword research tool.
And wati!
The CPC is also important especially if you use Google Adsense or Affiliate Marketing for monetizing your blog.
You’d make lot of money if you rank #1 google for the keyword.
Here is another free tool to check the search volume of a keyword.
b. Keywords Everywhere Extension
This is a free tool to check for the search volume of keywords however its a browser extension for firefox or chrome browsers.
How to use it for checking search volume of keywords.
- Search google for “Keywords Everywhere Extension” for it [Chrome or Firefox Browsers]
- Download and activate it.
This tool will not automatically add two rows to Ubersuggest displaying the Monthly Volume as seen below.
You don’t wanna trust this tool because it’s not so accurate as it’s absolutely free.
You should compare it with other keywords search volume checkers. So I recommend you use the #1 tool I listed above and the next one below.
c. SEMrush keyword Overview [Free Paid Tool]
Yes, you are going to use SEMrush tool to find the search volume of your keywords.
The issue here is you are gonna be limited and allowed only three times per day. It’s worth trying though.
so how do you do that?
Pick your Keyword and head in to semrush.com, in the box, put in your keyword and hit search.
For example: I can put in “Namecheap Affiliate Program” and hit start now button.
If that keyword I put in has a search volume, semrush would return a response showing me the search volume easily and fast.
But if it does not, then semrush either respond with no search volume or give few suggestions of similar keywords with search volume that i can use.
Note that if you try this up to three or more times, you may exceed the daily usage and would have to wait till another day.
Congrats so Far.
The Last Step would be to check if we can actually rank for these keywords. Talking about the Keyword Difficulty.
Finding the Keyword Difficulty of a Keyword using Free Tools.
Now in order to decided which keywords are best and easy to rank for, you will be needing keyword difficulty checker tools.
I will share them with you [Free Tools]
I. SEMrush Paid Tool for Free
You can use the semrush tool. It allows you check the difficulty of a keyword but only limits you to the amount keywords you could check daily.
So you are going to take it slowly.
Head over to semrush.com and in the box that appears once more. Don’t type a keyword there anymore instead type your blog homepage url [tipsonblogging.com] and hit Start.
You should see the keyword difficulty checker under keywords analytic as seen below
Now all you will do is Paste your keywords in the box at the next page. One Keyword per line and click show keyword.
Note that you can’t put in too much keywords as you are using the free version.
See the results I got below.
You see above image?
I can easily rank on google first page for the keyword having difficulty score of 52 and 50.
This is ideal for a brand new blog or website however you need to increase your domain authority to get as much results as possible.
If your blog is new or just growing, target keywords within this range 50-55 and you’d start pulling lots of search engine traffic.
The More Authority your domain the more easier it is to rank for these keywords and just a matter of 1 week you start ranking on google first page.
However, you should not panic about the domain authority aspect, you can still rank on page 1 of google.
I do it for new sites and you can too. but I strongly recommend you do a few things to boost your domain authority like
- More Quality Contents
- Long Aged Domain
- Backlinks
- Patience and the Likes
If you cant use semrush, you could as well try keyword inspector. It’s a great free tool but I highly recommend you use semrush.
You are Almost Done.

Hello, Mr Noah, I’ve sent you an e-mail message days ago still waiting for your response. Please reply. Thanks!
Alright,
Guess I didn’t get the email
Do send it again!
OK, I have sent another one again to this email : (email hidden)
This is my very first time to visit this blog and honestly I am impressed. But I hv few things that confuse me, when doing keywords research, should I choose those keywords with high KD (keyword difficulty) ? For example a keyword that is 40kd and 20kd ,which one of it am I to choose. The one I can easily rank on, and again what happens if I write a well detailed article that is very short like 300 to 400 can I beat my competitors?
For maximum effect, the aim is to find the lowest competition keywords.
These keywords are very easy to rank, the lower the keyword difficulty, the better and higher chance of ranking.
In order to beat your competitor your content has to be better.
I suggest 1000-2000 words article.
They give you more chances of ranking.
If you need a complete keyword ranking course for beginners, consider getting the keyword ranking beast.
i have been found it difficult to rank on any keyword that i use, even low competition. i run a tablet blog
Hopefully this post should help you find low competition keywords.
Read this >> linkcollider review and get #1 rankings< < If you are a complete beginner, then i strongly advice that you buy the >> keyword ranking beast course here <<, it will help you rank your keywords easily on Google.
A perfect way to find low competition keyword is to first do competitors analysis on specific keywords you want to rank your websites on. Then do keyword research with Google Keyword Planner then write content of almost more than 1000 words because almost 80 percent of the content on the internet is below 1000 words. Keywords analysis is the most important aspect of Search engine Optimization.
Welcome here and thanks for the contribution!
Great tutorial Noah,
Long tail, low competition keywords is where the traffic is right now. And any blogger who’s not yet targeting these type of keywords is obviously not serious, and he’s missing a lot.
Two tools I often use to mine these keyword are keywordtoo.io and ubersuggest. Looking at the Google’s “keyword related to my search” and auto suggest sections also helps a lot.
Yea definitely.
