Google Webmaster Console
Yes it all starts from your own home.
What do I mean?
The Google Webmaster Console is one best tool you can use to check what keywords your OWN website is ranking for on google search.
Plus it’s totally Free too.
All you need do is head in to the google webmaster dashboard.
Click on the website you want to check its keyword.
Now from your webmaster console dashboard, you see the “Search Analytics” link.
Click it and you’d be displayed with all of the keywords your website or blog is ranking for on google search. You can choose to show the position on google, ctr, etc.
As seen below screenshot.
As you can see above those are some keywords this site ranks for on google.
Having this information, I can easily push them a little bit to the top.
So the google webmaster tools is a great tool to help you check for this potential keywords your website ranks for.
Another tool below is the;
The SEMrush tool is my all time favorite for checking the rankings of my site and other websites.
If you are really serious about organic traffic you are missing out if you don’t use the SEMrush tool.
Let me now show you how to check the keywords and website is ranking for using the semrush tool.
Step 1: Head in to Semrush.com
Step 3: Input the URL of your blog or website homepage into the analyzer box.
Alternatively you can use this url: www.semrush.com/info/yoursiteurl.com
Replace the link in red to your URL.
Now you would see a whole lot of details but click on the Organic Search Button and you’d be shown the various keywords your website ranks for currently on google search.
It will also show you the keyword position, CPC, Volume and as well the percentage of traffic that keyword alone is driving to your blog or website.

Semrush is a kinda Premium tool and it will not allow you to check all of your keywords.
There is a limitation to how many times you can check per day so I recommend you purchase the SEMrush Pro account.
I personally use the SEMrush Pro account yearly Plan.

Ahrefs Keyword Research Tool
This is one tool I don’t joke with especially when it comes to taking over my competitors using keyword research.
You can use this wonderful tool to check what keywords any website is ranking for on google search.
Ahrefs once gave a free 14 day trial but right now its no longer so.
You need to pay around $7 to get access for 7 days but it’s worth more than that.
So how can you actually do this using ahrefs?
Step 1: Head in and Signup to Ahrefs.
Step 2: Go to ahrefs.com/site-explorer and input your website or any site URL
Now Ahrefs will display the full analysis for that site.
What you need to do is click on the Organic Keywords link.
You can see the keywords the website is ranking for featuring
- The keyword
- It’s position on google search
- Cost Per Click [If you monetize with Google Adsense]
- Keyword Volume
As seen above.
The Best Part
If you see these keywords, you may want to take advantage. Improve it to boost to the Top Page of Google.
How to Take Advantage of the Keywords you are Ranking For on Google
Check and Improve the Onpage
Most times, I publish articles and when I check my webmaster console and I see a keyword I’m not targeting but is the one giving me traffic to that article.
Then immediately I know I’m suppose to edit and improve the article targeting the keyword.
What this does is that, it help push the article to the top soon using onpage seo techniques
