Normally and at default when you create a Blog on blogger you would automatically be assigned a .blogspot.com extension which means If you create a blog with the title yourname, you would be assigned www.yourname.blogspot.com, which is kinda long and looks unprofessional.

So if you would like to change this .blogspot.com (Sub-Domain) to a TLD (Top Level Domain) a .com or .net, or .com.ng etc, then follow the below easy steps.

Why Do You Need a Custom Domain?

So this question arises, why do you need a custom Domain when you can actually use the .blogspot.com for free? This is because a sub-domain has no chance on Search Engine Results!

When you get a custom domain, it shows how serious you are in Blogging, when you continue using a .blogspot.com domain it shows outwardly that you are not yet ready for blogging, and most of it all its certain that of 100% Readers, 90% would likely not read your Blog if they see you are running a blog with the .blogspot.com extension.

So getting to the main purpose of the post, I’m going to be tutoring on How you can setup a Custom Domain on Domainking.ng because I recommend them.

So follow the below steps carefully!

Getting a Domain from Domainking

1. First you would have to register with Domainking and search for your desired domain name e.g. www.mydomainame.com.  Below is a screenshot of the prices of each domain extension on domainking.

It is highly recommend you search on google for your Competitors i.e. those that are using thesame domain name similar to the one you want to register. So, in this case it is required of you to get a unique name to use.

2. After filling the necessary Information correctly and bought your desired domain name follow the below steps carefully because buying the domain name is not a problem but linking thesame to your blog. So the next steps below would be about “How to link that newly registered domain to your blog” i.e. Changing the www.yourname.blogspot.com now to www.yourname.com

Linking the new Domain to your Blogspot Blog

3. Just like I said above, the issue is not in buying the domain but linking it to your blogspot blog so that it becomes something like www.yourname.com instead of www.yourname.blogspot.com, but you need not worry because Domainking has made this very easy and that’s why I recommended them here.

4. Now that you’ve gotten the domain, you’d be taken to your Domainking dashboard, it looks like the one in the screenshot below:

Click on My Domains as seen in the above screenshot and you would be taken to where you would integrate your domain with your blogspot blog and click the small green arrow as seen below:

Now right under Management Tools, Click on

This will take you to where you are going to provide some details from your blog.
Follow the below steps.

Getting Blogger.com’s settings from Blogger.com’s Interface:

Step 1. Login to your Blogger Dashboard and click on Basics under the Settings tab.
In the Publishing section, click the “Add the third party URL for your blog” as seen in the screenshot below.

Step 2. Type the url of the domain you’ve purchased, keeping in mind that it must begin with www in order for this to work. You could mention blog.yourdomain.com or www.yourdomain.com. www is recommended if you want to keep the blog on main domain. as seen in the below screenshot

Step 3. You should see an error message, and two CNAMEs will be listed below.
The first CNAME is the same for everyone, Name being “www” and Destination “ghs.google.com.”

The second CNAME is unique to your blog and your Google Account, and is therefore different for each person. You need to enter this CNAME record on the box asking for second CNAME.

After you are done filling the boxes, click on the  Button

and from the next window you would receive the message as seen in the screenshot below that your settings have been saved.

So all you need do now is have patience while your domain is being integrated with your blogspot blog! In less than 48 hours your custom domain should be all set.

If you face any problems with any of the above steps, kindly use the comment box below and I will get back to you as soon as possible

  3. With havin so much written content do you ever run into any problems
of plagorism or copyright infringement? My website has a lot of unique content I’ve either written myself or outsourced
but it appears a lot of it is popping it up all over the web without my
authorization. Do you know any solutions to help protect against content from being ripped off?
    I’d certainly appreciate it.

    1. Twitter:
Actually @home designs, the web is a very wide place, where you can’t possibly publish a unique content and expect it to stay on your website alone especially if its a quality article. All thesame you still remain the original author of the article.

But on my next post I would be publishing on Ways to deal with people who steal your Website’s Contents!

Thanks for leaving a comment on my blog, expect you next time
